Kano Chief resigns title over move to amend Emirate Council laws


Barely hours after moves by the Kano State House of Assembly to revisit and amend the Kano Emirate Council laws, a chieftain of the Karaye Emirate, Musa Iliyasu Kwankwaso has resigned his title. The resignation of Kwankwaso, the Sarkin Karaye (Defence Minister of Karaye) via social media could not be unconnected to fear of uncertainty with the move to amend the laws.
Kwankwaso was quoted to have said, “I better leave on time before it is too late and sent packing. “The whole thing has been politicized. It is a new norm now for every regime that come to power to appoint it’s Emirs. It is for the APC to remained calm and work towards snatching powers in 2027 and appoint our own Emir,” Kwankwaso said.
Although, it was not clear whether the Emirate has accepted his resignation or not. Karaye is one of four newly created Emirates in the state. The amendment of the laws have on Wednesday scaled first reading on the floor of the Kano State House of Assembly. Meanwhile, amidst the development, reports have it that heavy security personnel have taken over the Audu Bako Secretariat, the seat of the Assembly.

Fintiri Heads 152-Member PDP Campaign Council For Edo Gov’ship, Jonathan, Atiku make list
The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has constituted a 152-member national campaign council for the Edo governorship elections scheduled for Sept. 16. This is contained in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, in Abuja on Wednesday.
The council is chaired by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State. Ologunagba said the council will be inaugurated on June 11. He said the National Working Committee is committed to ensuring victory for the party in the Edo election.
Other members of the campaign council, he said, are Governors Kefas Agbu of Taraba and Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta as deputy chairmen, and former President Goodluck Jonathan. Others are former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar and Namadi Sambo, other governors on the platform of the PDP, the party’s Board of Trustees chairman, Sen. Adolphus Wabara, and the PDP acting national chairman, Umar Damagun, among others.

Security agents take over Cross River assembly complex after speaker’s impeachment
Security operatives have taken over the Cross River House of Assembly complex following the impeachment of the Speaker, Mr Elvert Anyambem, on Wednesday. The speaker’s removal almost resulted in a clash between his supporters and other members of the house
The state Commissioner of Police, Gyogon Grimah was sighted among other security personnel around the assembly complex. Analysts say the presence of the security personnel is to forestall breakdown of law and order around the complex.
Recall that the speaker was impeached on Wednesday on grounds of gross misconduct, high-handedness and misappropriation of funds. Mr Anyambem’s impeachment was carried out during a plenary. The impeachment notice was signed by 17 out of the 25 members of the assembly.
