The value of transactions through Automated Teller Machines rose by 197.86 percent year-on-year (YoY) to N36.34 trillion in the first half of 2025 (H1’25) from N12.2 trillion in the corresponding period of 2024 (H1’24).
Starmich analysis of data from the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Quarterly Statistical Bulletin for H1’25 showed that the volume of ATM transactions also grew significantly by 72.9 percent YoY to 858.8 million in H1’25 from 496.5 million in H1’24.
The value of mobile payment transactions grew by 33.98 per cent to N213.58 trillion in H1’25 from N159.4 trillion in H1’24. Likewise, the volume of mobile payment transactions rose by 26.6 percent to 4.42 billion in H1’25 from 3.49 billion in H1’24.
The value of transactions through WebPay (Internet) rose sharply by 32 percent YoY to N1.09 quadrillion in H1’25 from N825.5 trillion in H1’24. But the volume of internet transactions declined by 7.4 percent YoY to 10.77 billion in H1’25 from 11.64 billion in H1’24.
The value of transactions through the National Electronic Fund Transfer (NEFT) rose by 6.8 percent YoY to N391.24 trillion in H1’25 from N366.07 trillion in H1’24. However, the volume of transactions declined by 17.4 percent YoY to 37 million in H1’25 from 44.83 million in H1’24.
The total value of e-payment transactions for these channels stood at N1.89 quadrillion in H1’25, up by 29.5 percent YoY from N1.46 quadrillion in H1’24.
Likewise, the total volume of e-payment transactions grew by 7.9 percent to 23.81 billion in H1’25 from 22.07 billion in H1’24.
