A Nigerian film maker Chinney Love has vented over the difficulties of organizing burials in the East.
In an Instagram rant, she noted how one can’t do an Igbo burial without falling sick afterwards. She questioned why Igbo culture makes things hard for children who want to bury their parents.
The award-winning filmmaker said she sick, frustrated, angry, tired and generally fed up. She opined that these people wait for burial ceremonies to flex their muscles and show off their power.
Describing it as exhausting and draining, she added that people would stop taking their parents’ bodies to the village due to the stress.
“You cannot do an Igbo burial and not fall sick afterwards.
Why does Igbo culture make things hard for children who want to bury their parents?
I am sick, frustrated, angry, tired and just generally fed up!
Why do people try to make things hard for you during a very vulnerable time of your life, when you are still grieving?
It’s like they wait for burial to wanna flex muscle and power… It’s exhausting and draining.
Very soon, people would stop taking their parents’ bodies to the village because what is all this stress…
I honestly can’t wait for this phase to be over!”

The award-winning filmmaker recently announced the passing of her mother in a post shared on her Instagram page.
Marking her posthumous birthday, Chinney said this was the first time she wasn’t able to call her on her birthday, and it felt strange. She said she was still trying to figure out how to navigate life without her, as her mother was her everything.
