In a decisive move to translate policy commitments into tangible outcomes for women in the maritime sector, Women in Maritime Africa (WIMA Nigeria), in collaboration with Female Seafarers Association of Nigeria (FESAN), will host a high-level webinar to commemorate the International Day of Women in Maritime, bringing together industry leaders, professionals, and female seafarers for impactful dialogue and engagement.
The virtual session, scheduled for May 18, 2026, at 2:00 PM, will centre on the theme, “From Policy to Practice: Advancing Maritime Excellence for Women,” with a focus on bridging the gap between institutional frameworks and real-life experiences within the industry.
The engagement aims to spotlight actionable strategies that will strengthen inclusion, leadership, and professional growth for women across the maritime value chain.
The organisers have announced Dr. (Mrs.) Faith Izibenua Zibs-Godwin, Honourable Commissioner, Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, Bayelsa State, as the Keynote Speaker. Renowned for her contributions to the development of the marine and blue economy sector, she is expected to deliver a keynote address that will inspire practical solutions and set the tone for meaningful discussions.
According to the organisers, the webinar reflects a growing urgency within the industry to move beyond advocacy and ensure that policies supporting women translate into measurable impact, particularly for female professionals operating at sea and across maritime institutions.
The initiative also underscores the commitment of WIMA Nigeria and FESAN to deepen collaboration, strengthen stakeholder engagement, and create sustainable opportunities that enhance the visibility and contributions of women in maritime.
Participants are expected to gain valuable insights, engage in knowledge-sharing, and explore pathways for advancing professionalism, inclusion, and excellence within the sector.
