MC Fish Breaks Silence: The Painful Lessons I Learned From My Marriage to Anita Joseph

Nigerian hype man Fisayo Michael, popularly known as MC Fish, has opened up about the collapse of his marriage to actress Anita Joseph and the hard lessons he learned from the experience.

Speaking in a recent chat with WithChude, the nightlife entrepreneur said the union ended due to irreconcilable differences.

“It was not just working. Rather than it becoming toxic and hearing funny news, I decided to walk away for my peace and everybody’s peace of mind,” he said.

Despite the breakup, MC Fish said he still holds his ex-wife in high esteem. He also refuted claims that he rode on her fame, insisting, “I never wanted to share in her spotlight.”

The entertainer cited honesty as one of the key lessons from the marriage.

“Honesty is very important in marriage. Let it be as open as a book. No matter what it is, or how it is, let it be open as a book,” he stated.

Describing himself as an optimist, MC Fish said marriage shouldn’t scare anyone. “I feel like marriage is a school, just like moving from primary school to university,” he said.

He also believes relationships should be free from inhibitions. “If you love and care for someone, you shouldn’t be afraid to do what you want to do with the person. You shouldn’t be afraid to show the person love or talk about the person. You can show the person to the world. I always believe in optimism.

At that point, I was happy and respected. I saw everything I wanted in a marriage and I went into it,” MC Fish said.

Refuting claims that he benefited from Anita’s popularity and failed in his responsibilities, the hype man said he had spent over 16 years working in the nightlife industry and had consistently earned a living from his profession.

“You wouldn’t say I didn’t perform my duties as a husband,” he added.

MC Fish and Anita Joseph got married in February 2020. Their union was marked by public displays of affection, love notes, and shared videos on Instagram. Anita confirmed the end of their marriage last year, following the heartbreak of a stillbirth and miscarriage.
