According to a recent data from the Central Bank of Nigeria’s Balance of Payment compilation spanning the first six months of 2023, Nigerians spent $896.09 million on foreign education in the first six months of 2023. The data wasmade public in February this year.
Also, in the United Kingdom, a foreign student would spend between £10,000 and £15,000 (about $13,000 to $18,000) annually on tuition fee at undergraduate level.
However, in Canada, on the average, university tuition costs around: $36,100 per year for international undergraduate students (Statistics Canada, 2022) $21,100 per year for international graduate students (Statistics Canada, 2022).
In the United States, university education for foreign students is about 27% costlier than what obtains in Canada.
But there are universities you can attend as a foreign students for lower tuition fees in those countries. Vanguard is providing a list of such universities.
CANADA
The country is gradually becoming a home to many Nigerians, with about 20,000 given Canadian citizenship in the last few years.
BRANDON UNIVERSITY: Located in Manitoba, was established in 1889, can be a choice. It charges about 11,000 Canadian dollars for foreign students. It has a population of over 3,000 students from across the world.
UNIVERSITY OF GUELPH: Set up in 1964, It gets about $150 million in research grant yearly. It is called Canada’s Food University and has a student population of over 29,000. It is in Ontario and multi-campus.
UNIVERSITY OF NORTHERN BRITISH COLUMBIA (UNBC): It is rated as one of the premier small universities in Canada and the tuition is lower than in many universities.
Other universities that are very much affordable include: University of Saskatchewan, Simon Fraser University, Dalhouse University, Cape Breton University, Canadian Mennonite University, Concordia University, University of Prince Edwards among others.
In the United States, you can try the University of Houston-Victoria that charges about $9,000 tuition.
Others include: California State University, Brigham Young University, Delta State University in Mississippi, South Dakota State University, The University of Texas at Austin, Southeast Missouri State University, Purdue University, City University of New York among others.
In the United Kingdom, universities whose tuition fees are affordable include: Teesside University, University of Cumbria, University of Bolton, Staffordshire University in Leeds, Beckett University, University of Chester, University of West London and so on.
