Final year student commits suicide in Ondo after church vigil

She left suicide note in her bag- Police

A final year student of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, AAUA, Ondo state, Ayandare Modupe, has reportedly committed suicide after attending a  church vigil.

Sources said that the deceased walked into an uncompleted building close to the church where she attended a vigil at a white garment church and committed suicide.

She reportedly left a suicide note in her bag after hanging herself.

A statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the institutions student union, Olaogbebikan Noble, said that she committed suicide at the early hour of Monday around 4am.

Olaogbebikan said that ” We express in strong terms our dissatisfaction and agony with respect to the death of one of our student, Ayandare Modupe. A 500 level student of the Department of Agronomy (Agronomy Departmental President).

“According to report the deceased was said to have committed suicide at the early hour of today around 4am after they finished vigil in her church.

“The incident happened beside the church she attend around Sportless Villa.

“The law enforcement agency have been informed already and all hands are on desk in getting to the root of the situation.

“Should you have any information to supply regarding the incident that happened, kindly reach out to the students’ union. Stay tuned for further updates as further investigation are underway.

Also, in another statement, the deceased department in which she was the President, said that “lt is with a heavy heart that I write to inform you of a tragic event that has deeply affected our community.

The statement which was signed by Faith Oluwatimilehin, said “We have lost one of our own, Comrade Modesty, who served as the President of the Department of Agronomy.

” Her passing, by suicide at Onireason Street’s permanent site, is a profound loss to us all.

“During this difficult time, we urge everyone to come together in support of one another.

“The mental well-being of our members is of utmost importance, and we encourage anyone who may be struggling to seek help.

“Our faculty offers counselling services, and we are here to support you in any way we can.

“Please join me in extending our deepest condolences to Comrade Modesty’s family, friends, and colleagues.

“Let us honour her memory by fostering a compassionate and supportive environment for all.

Contacted, the spokesperson for the state police command, Funmi Odunlami, confirmed that the deceased left a suicide note in her bag before committing suicide at an uncompleted building.

Odunlami added that police detectives have commenced investigation to unravel the ugly incident.
