Iresi polytechnic tackles Internet fraud with innovation hub
In a bid to fight Internet fraud, popularly known as “Yahoo Yahoo”, the polytechnic Iresi, Osun State has concluded plans to set up innovation hub to train students and youths in the town.
Addressing journalists at the polytechnic campus in Iresi on Saturday, Chairman, Board of Trustee of the school, Chief Oludaisi Aina said the hub would engage the youth positively with a view to helping them maximize their potentials.
He said the technological hub would be established by an indigene of the community who is a major player in fintech in conjunction with the polytechnic to fight crime, especially internet fraud.
“A project codenamed, “Operation No Yahoo Yahoo”, is being launched in the town by one of our sons in conjunction with the school. The objective is to engage students of the school and our young children in the community positively. We want them to use their talent positively than engaging in Internet fraud.
“Our believe is that if we can help channel their skill in Information and Communication Technology positively, they will impact on their environment and help in discovering talents in the future as well”, he said.
The BoT chairman also stressed the readiness of the community and the polytechnic to partner with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, to deal with the trending problem of drug abuse among youths.
“The major objective of the BoT is to ensure that Iresi Polytechnic is crime-free. The Governing Council of the school was just reconstituted in a bid to position the school to deliver quality service for the teeming students in line with global best practices, hence, the move to ensure a crime-free environment”, he added.
