Katsina State Government hosted a two-day North-West Governors summit on advancing the Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up and to institutionalise a future where women are economically empowered, socially secure, and politically visible.
Addressing the summit at Katsina State Government House on Wednesday, the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, said the summit represented a defining chapter in Nigeria’s journey toward inclusive prosperity.
The Nigeria for Women Project Scale-Up front is Nigeria’s coordinated effort to place women at the centre of sustainable development.
Sulaiman-Ibrahim urged North West Governors that there is a need for them to treat the project as a national imperative.
She stated, “At the heart of the Renewed Hope Agenda of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, is the principle that no nation can thrive while excluding half its population.
“This core belief shapes our mission at the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs. We recognise the clear need to build systems, scale innovation, and drive catalytic investments that reach and uplift the last-mile woman.”
She explained that the Nigeria for Women Project and now its Scale-Up remained one of the most impactful national platforms to deliver real, quantifiable transformation to women.
She added, “Considering the fact that women constitute over 60% of Nigeria’s population, yet only about 30% of them own formal businesses in the form of micro, small and medium enterprises in Nigeria.
“Yet women continue to struggle with access to credit, market and financial literacy. Limited access to capital means that many women entrepreneurs are locked in small-scale activities, unable to grow their businesses or leverage opportunities in the formal economy.
