The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps Federal Capital Territory Command, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, has expressed strong concern over the rising cases of child molestation in the country, describing the situation as disturbing and unacceptable.

Odumosu made the remarks while receiving students from ECWA Hill Academy, Maitama, during an excursion to the NSCDC FCT Command in Abuja on Monday.

This was contained in a statement signed by the command spokesman, Monica Ojobi.

Addressing the students, the Commandant emphasised the Corps’ ongoing efforts to combat child abuse through its Anti-Human Trafficking and Gender Units, which are dedicated to preventing sexual abuse, trafficking, and organ harvesting.

According to him, the Command is currently handling a disturbing case involving a father accused of molesting his nine-year-old daughter.

He lamented the growing trend of such incidents and pledged that the Command, in collaboration with relevant agencies, would pursue justice for victims and ensure offenders are held accountable.

We have, apart from our key mandate of protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure, anti trafficking and gender units of the Command, that mediate extensively to protect children from being sexually molested, trafficked, and for organ harvesting. It is sad to say that currently we are handling a case of a father molesting his nine-year-old daughter.”

We are concerned about this insanity perpetrated against minors, especially girls, and we are set through our Gender Unit and other relevant agencies to make sure that such incidents are not treated with loose gloves,” he said.

Odumosu urged the students to be vigilant and to speak out if they experience or witness inappropriate behavior, even if it involves a family member.

Encouraging the students to take their studies seriously, he reminded them that academic success was key to securing a better future for themselves and the country.

He assured the group that the Corps would continue to support the Federal Government’s Safe School Initiative by ensuring the security of students and teachers across the FCT.

In his remarks, a tutor at ECWA Hill Academy and leader of the visiting delegation, Angbulu Joshua, commended the NSCDC for its visible efforts in safeguarding lives and national infrastructure. He said the excursion aimed to provide students with firsthand insight into the structure and functions of the Corps.
