The Nigeria Police Force has successfully rescued a Ghanaian citizen, Sammed Iddrisu, who was deceptively trafficked into Nigeria under the false promise of securing travel documents for migration to Europe.

The rescue operation, a joint effort with INTERPOL, also prompted a strong warning from the police to the public against falling victim to fraudulent travel offers.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, emphasised the importance of public vigilance.

He said, “The Nigeria Police Force hereby cautions members of the public to exercise due diligence, verify travel-related offers through official diplomatic channels, and report all suspicious persons or activities happening around them through appropriate and official law enforcement channels.

“The operation, executed on June 27, 2025, in Abuja, was initiated following actionable intelligence received on June 16, 2025, from INTERPOL National Central Bureau (NCB) Accra, Ghana. Investigations revealed that on January 10, 2025, Mr. Nartey Louda, Sammed’s father, was defrauded of GHC 55,000 by a trafficker identified as Attah. Attah had falsely promised to facilitate a French visa and related travel documents for Sammed. Based on these fraudulent assurances, Sammed was directed to travel to Abuja with the expectation of collecting the supposed visa.

“Upon his arrival in Abuja on June 25, 2025, Sammed Iddrisu was unlawfully detained and coerced into participating in illicit internet-based activities associated with the QNET pyramid scheme, a fraudulent operation disguised as an e-commerce business. The criminal syndicate also attempted to ensnare other individuals, including another Ghanaian who managed to escape and report the incident to authorities in Ghana, thereby triggering the international coordination and rescue efforts Proactive surveillance, intelligence acquisition, and a prompt response from INTERPOL NCB Abuja and FCT police operatives led to Sammed’s rescue, and reintegration procedures are currently underway.”

The INTERPOL NCB Abuja has commenced necessary steps to ensure the apprehension of these fraudulent individuals, who will face the full wrath of the law.
