United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has announced plans to deport Ibrahim Tunde Ijaoba, a Nigerian national convicted of multiple violent and drug-related offences in the United States.
In a notice published on Monday, ICE said Ijaoba, a former member of the Bloods street gang, is currently in its custody and awaiting removal from the country after a final deportation order was issued against him.
“Ibrahim Tunde Ijaoba is a criminal illegal alien from Nigeria and former member of the Bloods — a notoriously violent street gang,” the agency said.
According to ICE, Ijaoba entered the United States illegally and later accumulated a string of criminal convictions. These include aggravated assault on a police officer with a firearm, assault and aggravated assault, armed robbery, obstruction, drug sales and escaping police custody.
“He entered illegally and then racked up an extensive rap sheet,” the statement added, noting that his offences spanned violent crimes and the illicit drug trade.
The agency said Ijaoba has exhausted all legal options to remain in the country and is now awaiting deportation in ICE custody.
The development comes amid renewed enforcement actions by US authorities against non-citizens convicted of serious crimes.
In a related case, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) recently arrested another Nigerian national, Oluwadamilola Ogooluwa Bamigboye, over allegations of evading arrest and abducting an immigration officer.
Bamigboye and an alleged accomplice, Rekeya Frazier, have been arraigned on charges related to the assault of a federal agent. Authorities also accused Bamigboye of overstaying his student visa.
US law enforcement agencies have said such actions underscore their commitment to enforcing immigration laws and removing individuals considered a threat to public safety.
