Nigerian singer Niniola has shared an emotional tribute to her late husband, Michael Ndika, saying his death has left her heartbroken.
The singer took to Instagram on Thursday to open up about her grief days after announcing the death of Ndika, whom she described as her best friend, confidant, pillar and the “air” she breathed.
“I find myself waiting, expecting Michael to walk through the door,” Niniola wrote.
“My best friend, my confidant, my pillar, my gossip partner, my laughter, my joy giver, my provider, my business partner, my husband, my brother… he was the air I breathe.”
Expressing the depth of her pain, the singer admitted that she still finds it difficult to accept that her husband is gone.
“I can’t survive this… I looked forward to him coming home every time he went out,” she wrote.
“Even in the house we were always together. He never wanted me to be away from him. Always wanted me to be by his side.”
Niniola further described herself as a natural loner, revealing that Michael was all she needed because of the role he played in her life emotionally, personally and professionally.
“I’m naturally a loner and Michael was all that I needed because he was one in a million,” she added.
“He touched my life in different capacities and God took him from me.”
The singer announced Ndika’s death on May 20, though details surrounding the circumstances of his passing remain unclear.
Niniola also previously revealed that they had been together for 13 years, describing their relationship as one built on companionship, friendship and unwavering support.
Ndika was the Chief Executive Officer of NaijaReview, a multimedia platform focused on Afro-house and African music.
Since the announcement of his death, fans, colleagues and well-wishers have continued to flood social media with condolence messages and prayers for the grieving singer.
Niniola rose to prominence after emerging as second runner-up at the sixth season of Project Fame West Africa in 2013 and has since established herself as one of Nigeria’s leading voices in Afrobeats and Afro-house music.
