No fewer than three persons have been reportedly killed in a clash that ensued between farmers ad herders in Safa and Gauraki villages in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
It was gathered that the incident also resulted in the setting ablaze of three houses.
Confirming the incident, spokesperson, Jigawa State Police Command, Lawan Shiisu, said the clash between the duo occurred when the herders were moving from Katsina to Jigawa upon invitation by indigenous herders and in the process destroyed farmlands on the route leading to the farmer’s mobilising against destruction of their farm produce.
Shiisu said it took the intervention of the security agencies to disperse the warring factions and restore normalcy in the area.
Shiisu said: “Currently, normalcy has been restored, as Police tactical teams in collaboration with local vigilantes, hunters and Yan Bulala have been deployed to areas to forestall further breaches of peace.
“Investigation has commenced, as anyone found guilty will be prosecuted accordingly.”
