As Christians worldwide mark Easter, the President-General of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Francis Bunu Abi, has delivered a heartfelt message urging Nigerians and the global community to embrace peace, love, and forgiveness in the spirit of the season.
In his Easter message, Comrade Bunu congratulated Christians on the celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, describing it as a powerful symbol of victory over death and the redemption of humanity. He noted that the season reflects the ultimate sacrifice of Christ—marked by suffering, sacrifice, and triumph—and serves as a reminder of God’s enduring love for mankind.
Drawing from the significance of the resurrection, the labour leader stressed the need for humanity to live by the values exemplified by Jesus Christ, including love, tolerance, peace, and forgiveness. According to him, these virtues remain essential in building a more harmonious society.
Comrade Bunu emphasized that Christ’s death and resurrection represent a call for mankind to rise above sin and division, and instead embrace unity and compassion. He urged Christians to lead by example, embodying the teachings of Christ through acts of kindness, humility, and service to others.
The MWUN President-General also addressed the current challenges facing Nigeria, particularly insecurity in some regions. He commended Christians for their resilience in the face of adversity and encouraged them to remain steadfast in faith, expressing hope that peace will ultimately prevail.
Highlighting the importance of coexistence, he called on both Christians and Muslims to continue living together in unity, noting that humanity shares a common origin under God. He further encouraged citizens to extend love and support to the less privileged, especially during the Easter season.
Reaffirming his message of hope, Comrade Bunu expressed optimism that the world can become a better place—one defined not by conflict, but by peace, love, and mutual understanding.
