Tojemarine Academy, Safety Babes are champs as Ardova Handball Premier League ends


Lagos based handball team Tojemarine Academy and Abuja based Safety Babes have emerged leaders of the first phase of the 2024 Ardova Handball Premier League which ended Friday in Benin City, Edo State.
Tojemarine Academy finished the first phase unbeaten and led the men category league log with 33 points following their 36-26 victory against Benue Buffaloes in their last game. They are four points higher than Rima Strikers who placed second place with 29 points after they defeated De Defenders 32-25.
Defending champion, Niger United were relegated to the third place after they were displaced by Tojemarine following their 25-20 defeat against former champions Safety Shooters. The Minna based giants also have 29 points alongside Rima Strikers but are separated by goal difference just as Safety Shooters are fourth with 27 points.
In the women category, Safety Babes maintained their unbeaten runs with 27 point.
They defeated Rivers Queens by 32-24 in their last match of the league leaving Rivers Queens in the sixth position with 19 points.
Safety Babes have been commanding the female league table for almost two years now with firm grips . Defender Babes are in second position with 23 points.
Imo Grasshoppers Handball of Owerri showed great presence in this year’s edition of the league as they leapfrogged from their usual sixth position to third place this time around with 21 points.
Former champions Plateau Peacocks reenacted their handball playing prowess in their last game of the phase one beating Seasider Babes of Lagos 34-32 to occupy the fifth place just as the Lagos based female team placed 7th with 15 points
The phase two of the Ardova Handball Premier League 2024 will be held in Lagos later in the year whereby the winners of the league in boti male and female categories will be crowned champions of the league.
