Viral News: Accountant-General Accuses DG of Intercepting State House Letter in Alleged ₦1.3bn PFIPC Cover-Up

Fresh revelations have emerged in the ongoing investigation into the controversial Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), with the Accountant-General of the Federation, Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, alleging that the council’s self-acclaimed Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, intercepted an official letter from the Office of the Accountant-General that could have exposed alleged forged documents used to secure government recognition for the agency.

Testifying before the House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating the PFIPC and the ₦1.3 billion appropriated to it in the 2026 budget, Ogunjimi explained that his office received what appeared to be a genuine State House request in November 2024 to create an administrative code for the council. After approving the request, the response was sent back to the State House, but he alleged the letter was intercepted before it reached its destination, preventing the Presidency from discovering that the original request was forged.

The Accountant-General further told lawmakers that investigations later revealed the documents used to establish and obtain official recognition for the council—including the purported Act establishing it and appointment documents—were allegedly forged. He, however, clarified that although the council sought billions of naira in funding, no government funds were released through his office

The House committee is continuing its probe into the legality of the PFIPC, the authenticity of the documents presented in its name, and the circumstances surrounding the #1.3 billion allocation. Adeyemi was previously arrested by police over allegations linked to the scandal, while lawmakers are expected to continue questioning key officials as the investigation progresses.
