Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, on Thursday celebrated his 63rd birthday with a thanksgiving service at the Government House Chapel, Asaba, where he expressed gratitude to God for preserving his life and granting him the opportunity to serve the state.
Unlike the fanfare that often accompanies birthdays of public office holders, Oborevwori dedicated the day to worship and thanksgiving, saying appreciation to God was more important than social festivities.
Addressing worshippers during the service, the governor said the occasion was an opportunity to acknowledge God’s faithfulness and mercy throughout his life and political journey.
“I have come here to thank God. The most important thing for me today is to give God thanks because He has kept me and sustained me. Every other celebration is secondary,” he said.
Oborevwori also used the occasion to appreciate Deltans for their support and goodwill, assuring them of his continued commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy and advancing development across the state.
The governor called on citizens to sustain prayers for leaders, noting that governance requires divine wisdom, strength and guidance.
“Pray for me, pray for the state, and pray for all those in authority. We need your prayers as we continue to serve,” he appealed.
Earlier, the Chaplain of the Government House Chapel, Venerable Charles Osemenam, congratulated the governor on attaining the age of 63 and urged him to continually seek God’s wisdom in leadership.
Preaching on the topic, ”What Is Your Prayer to God?”, and drawing lessons from 1 Kings 3:7-12, Osemenam cited King Solomon’s request for wisdom as a model for leaders entrusted with public responsibility.
The cleric commended Oborevwori’s commitment to peace, unity and inclusive governance, describing the governor’s leadership style as one that promotes harmony and development across the state.
Family members, senior government officials, political associates, clerics and other worshippers attended the thanksgiving service and offered prayers for the governor and the continued progress of Delta State.
The celebration climaxed with the cutting of a birthday cake by Governor Oborevwori, flanked by his wife, clerics and top government functionaries.
